This beautiful vintage 9ct gold cameo ring in a very flattering and elegant marquise shaped shell carving. It has a lovely warm rose gold engraved frame that perfectly compliments the soft peachy hue of the shell that features a female Grecian/Roman mythological figure depicted gracefully poised in the centre. Due to the bow in her right hand we assume this to be the Goddess Artemis, also known as the Roman equivalent 'Diana'.
The legends describe Artemis as the Goddess of hunting, wild nature, the moon and chastity. She was the daughter of Zeus and twin sister to Apollo, she is considered as a patron to young girls and offers help and protection to women in childbirth. A powerful and much loved deity that is just as important today as she was during ancient times.
This would make a very thoughtful gift for a midwife, someone who dedicates themselves to caring for women or children, or perhaps even a mother to be.
This ring is in lovely condition and is likely to have had the band replaced at some point as the rose gold stops at the end of the engraving along the shoulders at either side of the cameo and then is notably yellow gold however this also means it is of good substantial quality ready for a new wearer.
